Surprising results for Chronicle test

An experiment by the Bath Chronicle to test the efficiency of the postal service has had surprisingly good results.

Following complaints of a poor delivery service in the Bath area, the Chronicle decided to test it for itself.

The paper sent out 40 first class letters – 20 to local addresses and 20 to national addresses, and asked recipients to note the time and date the letter was received and post it back to the Chronicle.

Thirty-three letters were returned – but only one arrived late. Of the local letters 15 arrived the next day, as did 14 of the nationally-posted letters.

Consignia spokesman Adrian Booth said: “Clearly we did not know (the Chronicle) were going to do the survey. Our aim is to deliver mail the next day if it is first class.”
