Success at the double for weekly

The Hereford Times is celebrating a double success.

Within hours of the paper publishing a front-page article about Herefordshire Council’s decision to ban toy windmills from children’s graves in the city cemetery, the decision was reversed.

After the council claimed the windmills caused distress to other visitors to the cemetery, the Hereford Times responded with the views of grieving families who said they helped other small children to feel the area was a happy place for their dead brothers or sisters.

Following the article the council backed down, admitting that it may have acted too quickly and that wider consultation was needed.

The success came in the same week as the latest ABC figures revealed the Hereford Times has become the sixth highest selling weekly in the UK with figures of 42,451 – a record high for the paper.

Editor Liz Griffin said: “We are delighted to welcome so many new readers week on week.

“The rising sales are a tribute to our experienced, dedicated and hard-working team in editorial, advertising, production and newspaper sales.

“They do a great job each week – and our readers and advertisers recognise that quality is worth paying for.”
