Story sparks safety fears among celebrities

TV stars and politicians are removing their personal details from an Internet site after a story in the Belfast Telegraph.

The paper revealed that several celebrities were taking action to have their details pulled from the website 192.com after a Telegraph investigation raised security fears.

It discovered the home addresses of several well-known figures, including Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble, on the site, which features the 40 million UK residents who are registered voters.

The paper says that within the next few weeks, 192.com will also include aerial pictures of every house in Northern Ireland whose occupants are on the electoral roll.

It quotes the site’s managing director, Alastair Crawford, denying that 192.com is dangerous and dismssing claims that publishing aerial photos of homes compromises personal security.
