Star-spotting on the green

A young leukaemia patient has met up with two of his biggest heroes – thanks to the Fife Free Press.

Brave Duncan Thomson (12) met up with Scottish golfing star Colin Montgomerie at a pro-am game at St Andrews.

But it made the day even more special when he found out Colin’s partner for the day was TV favourite Chris Evans.

“It’s a dream come true and all my friends at school have asked me to get his autograph for them. One even gave me a golf ball for him to sign,” the young golfer told the Press.

Duncan has battled against leukaemia for the last five years and after enduring chemotherapy, an anxious wait for a bone marrow donor and a dose of pneumonia during his recovery, it looks as though he could be on the mend.

He has already overturned the odds to lift a Junior Open trophy at Dunfermline’s Pitreavie Golf Club, not long after gruelling hospital treatment.

The once-in-a-lifetime experience was set up with the help of Bill Ritchie, chairman of trustees at St Andrews Links Trust, who was contacted by The Press after a previous story was printed about Duncan’s bravery.
