Silver celebration

Evening Press sub Bob Lawrence has clocked up a quarter of a century with the York paper.

Bob joined the then Yorkshire Evening Press in 1976, when a pint of beer cost 7.5p a pint – though as a teetotaller he was unaware at the time – and houses in a posh area of the city went for a mere £1,500.

He started his newspaper career with the Derby Evening Telegraph before moving to the Enfield Gazette & Observer where he became chief reporter and then assistant editor. Bob is the author of the Evening Press’s editorial style “bible” which he updates regularly.

To mark his 25 years with the Press, Bob chose watercolour paintings as his gift from York & County Press and was presented with an irreverent, framed front page by his colleagues.
