Sad farewell to public face of the Herald

Tributes have been flooding in after the death of the Falkirk Herald’s chief photographer.

Eaun Pitcaithly died last week following a short illness.

As chief photographer, Euan was the public face of the Herald and news of his death has been greeted with widespread shock.

Leading the tributes was assistant editor Duncan McCallum who spoke of Euan’s generosity of spirit and friendly nature.

He said: “He was great at breaking down barriers and an asset to accompany on a story.

“He was a professional who was thinking not just of the job in hand but the one down the road – a great attribute in someone working for a weekly newspaper.

“He was a devoted husband and father. You only had to speak to him for a few moments to recognise the love and pride he felt for his wife Mary and daughter Sarah and the huge pleasure he gained from their holidays together.”

“We’ve been without Euan for several months.

“But it is perhaps only now, knowing that he isn’t going to be coming back, that we are really beginning to miss him.”
