Rock star drums up money for Echo appeal

Stuart Cable from the Stereophonics has helped drum up £30,000 for the South Wales Echo/Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice Appeal.

The drummer was a special guest at the charity’s annual Butterfly Ball in Cardiff, and during the evening he turned auctioneer.

Two guitars signed by all the members of the band were part of the lots up for auction, and Stuart managed to raise the bids from a couple of hundred pounds to a final selling price of almost £3,000 each.

The £5,900 raised by the Stereophonics took the auction total to just under £12,000 – including the £2,000 paid for a Julien Macdonald dress, and meant more than £30,000 was raised on the night.

Stuart, who was at the event with his wife, Nicola, was thrilled with the money raised for Ty Hafan by the sale of the guitars.

He said: “I know what they’re worth and believe me these guys got themselves a couple of bargains.

“But I just hope they don’t learn to play them – we could find ourselves out of a job.”
