A former Burnley Express journalist, television producer and playwright has died, aged 83.

Don Haworth won a BAFTA for his production of Fred Dibnah’s television programmes.

But he joined the Express straight from school as a reporter, a stint which was cut short by the outbreak of war when he joined the RAF.

His first job after the war was as a sub-editor on the News Chronicle in Manchester and he later worked at the Manchester Guardian.

He later travelled to Canada and America to gain experience in the television industry and got his first big break in television on the trail-blazing “Tonight” before going to work on Panorama as a producer. Do you have a story about the regional press?
