Rachael leaves Plymouth for new post in London

Rachael Campey leaves the Plymouth Evening Herald on March 2, after four years as editor, to become Deputy News Editor of The Times in London.

Miss Campey has previously been editor of the Express and Echo in Exeter and a deputy editor of the Northern Echo.

Miss Campey said: “While I am looking forward to editing national news, I am going to miss Plymouth.

“I have had four tremendous years here, leading a fantastic team and building up the paper’s community role.

“We have taken the fight for Plymouth right to the heart of Government, thanks to some memorable campaigns.

“We helped to save the kidney transplant unit at Derriford Hospital, we said ‘No’ to VAT on the Tamar Bridge and we helped to save Ford Park Cemetery – among many.

“None of these campaigns would have been won without a local paper with the guts to take them on and, crucially, without the support of its loyal readers.”
