Work of Press and Journal snappers tours the Highlands

An exhibition of pictures taken by Press and Journal photographers has begun a year-long tour of the Highlands.

The collection of 40 images – all of which reflect the life of the Highlands – have been put together to help celebrate Highland 2007, the year Scotland celebrates the area’s culture.

Staff at the Press and Journal trawled the paper’s archives, originally picking out 300 of its best pages and then choosing a final 40 to go on display.

They were then professionally enlarged and framed, and can currently be seen at Inverness Library.

The images chosen include news pictures, Royal visits, the Highland Games and typical Highland scenes.

Press and Journal assistant editor David Knight, who helped organise the exhibition, said: “We wanted to contribute as a paper to Highland 2007 as it is an important part of our area.

“We came up with the idea and selected the pictures and then approached Highland council and the Highland 2007 organisers who loved the idea and helped us tour it.

“We are really pleased with it and have had really positive feedback so far.”

Later in the year the exhibition will move to Swanson Gallery in Thurso, Iona Gallery in Kingussie, Inverness Museum, Macphail Centre in Ullapool and St Fergus Gallery in Wick, and it is hoped that more venues may also be included.
