War images on display

A special collection of images from the Falklands War, taken by the Plymouth Evening Herald’s picture editor, has gone on display in the city.

Before joining the Herald, Pete Holdgate (pictured) was a green beret-trained Royal Navy Petty Officer with the Commando Forces.

Then aged 30, he was tasked with gathering pictures of the islands for operational planning.

He took hundreds of photographs that provide a dramatic record of the war from start to finish, including key ground battles and the victory push through Port Stanley on June 14.

Now 46 of the photographs taken by Pete have gone on display at Plymouth City Museum.

The exhibition runs until November 16 and also features 15 minutes of television footage from the period.
