Quirky photo contest: WIN £100

Rude children and unruly animals can be the bane of the local newspaper snapper…

That is why holdthefrontpage.co.uk is launching its Christmas competition 2005 – to find the funniest published misfit in a photo.

Here’s your chance to win £100, courtesy of holdthefrontpage.co.uk.

Take a look at Doug Jackson’s picture from the Whitby Gazette.

Nice gymnast – but our column widths don’t do it justice.

Take a closer look at the scoundrel in the middle of the front row…

Doug said: “Check out the lad in the centre… little blighter.

“On local rags there is a necessity to set up a great deal of pictures.

“Due to time and space constraints and a happy and bright picture style, it is essential to get everyone where you want them and then get them laughing or whatever.

“The funny thing with large groups is that you never know what you’re going to get – because you can’t look at everything at once and there’s always a surprise when you get back to the office.

“I still get excited about getting back at the end of the day to see just what I’ve shot.”

Our competition is open until Christmas Eve and the only rule is that the photo must be published in the regional/local press, and we’ll have to see the cutting or an electronic version of the page to prove it.

Happy people in a sad picture, grumpy people in a cheery line-up, children with their eyes shut, an impostor in the pic or even an appalling cropping by the sub-editors would qualify.

E-mail them to [email protected], or post them off to Holdthefrontpage, Ground Floor, East Point, Cardinal Square, 10 Nottingham Road, Derby DE1 3QT.

The entry that causes the biggest reaction at our office will win, and we’ll be publishing some of the best between now and Christmas.
