Picture editor's visit is a "humbling" experience

Young patients at Bristol Children’s Hospital have been exploring the wonders of photography with the help of picture editor Shaun Thompson.

Shaun, from the Bristol Evening Post, visited the hospital where children suffering from leukaemia were taking part in an arts project which helps keep them entertained and their minds active.

Earlier this year the Evening Post donated a digital camera to the project, and Shaun visited the ward to give some of the children a few pointers.

  • Shaun, who has been a photographer for more than eight years, said the experience was humbling.

He said: “To see children transformed by something that is so familiar to me really made the sessions very moving.

“The strength that they exhibit puts everything in perspective for you and they deserve all the fun and activity that comes their way.

“For us to do something like this is all gain – and for such little effort.

“The children are forced to sit in their beds all the time and there are only so many videos that you can watch before becoming bored, so for them to be involved in this way can only be good for them.”
