Top names and industry experts gathered to share their wisdom and experience with photography students at a two-day event for undergraduates.

Press photographer and TV cameraman, Tony Freeman was among the speakers at Falmouth College of Arts.

Dave Matthews, programme leader of BA(Hons) Photography and organiser of the symposium said: “Gathering together such a wide range of high profile photographic practitioners at one time is a real treat for both students and staff.”

The first day included sessions hosted by the Victoria & Albert Museum’s curator of art photography Charlotte Cotton, documentary photographer Daniel Meadows, Fuji’s David Hartwell, assistant photographer Conor Masterson, and photojournalist Witold Krassowski.

Day two was a Real World Seminar Day, an event that is provided by the British Institute of Photographic Practitioners to the few colleges in the country that offer students the added value of a Professional Qualifying Examination at the end of their degree studies.

It included talks by the BIPP’s education officer, David Soulsby, and lectures by advertising and commercial photographer, Richard Booth, commercial photographer Trevor Burrows and Tony Freeman.

Star turn, Brian Griffin, whose high profile career in advertising and the music industry has had a profound effect on photography during the past 30 years delivered a lecture “My destiny, therefore no compromise”.

His clients have included big names from the music industry such as Elvis Costello, Peter Gabriel and Echo & the Bunnymen, and brands including British Airways, Levi, Nike and BMW, and top-of-the-range fashion and lifestyle publications like Vogue, the Face and Esquire.

He told his audience about the reality of a range of photographic careers to encourage them to aspire to success.
