Awards event cancelled

There will be no Picture Editors’ Awards for 2001.

The ceremony, originally scheduled for mid-February, has been cancelled.

The Awards still have support from the Corporation of London, Fujifilm, and Guinness but it has not been possible to secure sufficient funding in the current economic climate to make the 2001 event viable.

The organisers say they hope that the Picture Editors’ Awards, organised by the Picture Editors’ Guild, can be revived in 2002.

Last year, Reuters photographer Jonathan Evans was named Photographer of the Year and was handed the award at the Guildhall in the City of London, where 38 other photographers were also honoured.

The contest attracted entries from almost 650 photographers.
