Essex County Standard journalist David Grocott is undertaking a marathon cycle ride across the width of the country to raise money for charity.

David (pictured) will ride coast-to-coast from Workington to Tynemouth in an attempt to raise money for the cancer ward of the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle.

He chose to support the RVI because a close friend was treated there for leukaemia.

He said: “We are cycling across the narrowest but also possibly the most mountainous bit of the country.”

David will be making the ride over the weekend of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
