Newsroom baby boom spills on to newspaper pages

A baby boom at the Hampstead and Highgate Express has spilled on to the pages of the newspaper, in the form of a diary written by two of its journalists who are parents to be.

The two full-time writers, who are penning the columns anonymously, discovered they were expecting babies with their respective partners at roughly the same time, and decided to share their experiences.

Until the new year, when both babies are due, the writers – a man and a woman – will be giving their own perspectives on the happy news, and have already covered topics such as scans, food cravings and nest building.

Editor Geoff Martin said: “Two of our full-time members of staff announced at around the same that they were going to become parents for the first time.

“After about two weeks of it being the main subject of conversation, we decided it might be a good idea to share it with our readers.

“Both columns are written in an entertaining way and readers are following it with interest – they will be the most famous babies in Hampstead when they arrive!”

During the past 18 months three other members of the paper’s editorial team have also become parents.

Geoff said: “Making babies and having babies wasn’t something that our reporters used to talk about, but now it seems that it is all they talk about!”
