Newspaper pregnancy plea success

A newspaper feature carrying a desperate plea from a childless couple has resulted in the birth of their “miracle” twins.

The couple advertised in the Newport-based South Wales Argus in December 1999 and the newspaper picked up the story for its front page lead.

The ad read: “Desperate infertile couple seek egg donors under 35 years of age.”

They needed someone to donate their eggs in a desperate bid to end years of infertility caused by cancer treatment.

And on Christmas Day 2000, the couple brought their twins home for the first time.

Their mum, who is remaining anonymous, said: “Our family is complete now.

“I never thought it would happen. It is all thanks to someone who gave their time and something of themselves after reading the advertisement in the Argus.”

The advert was placed by the couple after discussions with the Bristol-based Centre for Reproductive Medicine.

And because the ad was so successful, attracting 25 replies, they went to the top of the list to receive treatment.

The pregnancy was confirmed after only one month’s treatment, with the successful birth just before Christmas.
