Newspaper makeover follows circulation boost

The paid-for Burnham & Highbridge Weekly News – produced by Newsquest (Somerset) – has been given a complete makeover.

The new-look publication is now out every Thursday – a day earlier than previously.

Readers saw their first of the new editions last week, with a newspaper which set the standard for the Weekly News in future by offering:

  • 48 pages – an increase of 16 pages;
  • bright and colourful design
  • more news, more sport, more leisure.
  • extended property and motoring pages.

    Editor-in-chief Ken Bird said: “Everyone involved in the title can be truly proud of its transformation. It’s been a real team effort, headed by district editor, Paul Tucker, and news editor, Sean Smith.”

    The Weekly News, a sister paper to the Bridgwater Mercury, was launched as a free sheet and became a paid-for in the late 1980s, when it was bought by its current owners.

    It has a circulation of 3,200, a figure reached after seeing some of the fastest circulation growth in the country for a weekly newspaper.
