The News Shopper series of weekly papers in London has signed a £40,000 deal to back young supporters of Charlton Athletic Football Club.

The move sees the News Shopper become closely involved with the club as it sponsors the Junior Reds supporters club.

There are currently 3,000 members who can get coaching from club professionals and have the chance to meet their football heroes.

News Shopper editor Andrew Parkes said: “We are proud to be considered the newspaper for Charlton Athletic.

“No football club cares more about its fans and the community than Charlton and this paper is delighted to be supporting the Junior Reds.”

The cash will also go into the club’s youth system, which has already produced several successes, including England under-21 international Scott Parker.
