The Newspaper Society is seeking entries for its annual Circulation, Editorial and Promotions Awards, which will be held in Manchester in March.
The event is designed to showcase the best initiatives, content and promotions ideas, and the closing date for entries is Friday January 27.


Broadcaster John Inverdale has recalled the day when he was so desperate to use a telephone to file copy on a double murder in rural Lincolnshire that he eventually knocked on a door and offered the householder 20p to use their phone.
It was the days before mobile phones and all the red telephone boxes were out of order. But the occupier made him so welcome that young John even got a cup of tea as he dictated his story to the copy typist of the Lincolnshire Echo.


Southern Daily Echo editor Ian Murray has given a talk to the Wild Orchid Directors’ Club, where he told Southampton area business leaders: “Don’t shoot me – I’m only the editor!”


The Evening Star is asking Suffolk families to display its posters in a plea to Let Them Play. It is all part of a £30,000 appeal to help revamp a children’s playground area at Ipswich Hospital. The £30,000 will pay for it to be resurfaced.


A toy appeal in the Liverpool Echo is aiming to collect 10,000 presents for needy youngsters.
The annual event is being run in conjunction with BBC Radio Merseyside and Greggs the bakers.
