Eighty-eight-year-old Derby County fan Ernest Hallam is blaming his son’s job as a journalist with the Derby Trader after the club eased him out of the role giving matchday tours around the ground.
He said: “They must think I feed Neil’s column with information. I wouldn’t do that – he would never have anything off me and I would never give him anything.”


Youngsters from a high-achieving York primary school got a sneak peak behind the news when they visited the York Evening Press publishing centre. They spoke to the people responsible for putting the Evening Press together, including journalists, photographers and advertising staff.
The tour came about through head teacher Ken Taylor and Liz Page, the managing director of York & County Press, who are both involved in the North Yorkshire Business and Enterprise Partnership.


A market trader who lied to police and told them he was the victim of an attempted robbery was caught out when a witness spotted his picture in the Bradford Telegraph and Argus.
He made up the story as a defence when he had an air pistol confiscated by police in February – and was found guilty of making up his tale of being the victim, when a jury decided he was lying.


Paul Newman, deputy managing director and finance director of the South East Weeklies, is to take early retirement at the end of March.
During Paul’s 33-year career at Northcliffe, he has risen from assistant accountant at Tunbridge Wells to finance director of Northcliffe’s south east division, as well as being a pension fund trustee.


The Newcastle Chronicle has handed back confidential court papers after they were delivered to its offices in error. The package – destined for Newscatle Law Courts – found its way to the Chronicle as part of a Royal Mail delivery.
It is not the first time the paper has come to the rescue with the post, a reporter being handed a letter in the street in September claiming he was lost.
