The Galloway Gazette has been told not to repeat an in-paper advert that suggests Audit Bureau Circulation data shows it to be the area’s fastest-growing newspaper.
The title has only one ABC certified figure, so the claim is not supported by ABC data. ABC said the advert should not be repeated in its current form.


The Newspaper Society has appointed Robert Ray as its new marketing director. A former managing director of Starcom Worldwide’s P&G Global Business Unit and currently running his own communications consultancy, Robert will join the Society on January 11.
He said: “Major national brands are starting to recognise the real benefits of getting closer to consumers through the regional press. I have always been a passionate believer in regional newspapers and relish the opportunity to work alongside these dynamic businesses to help them achieve their full potential in the national advertising arena.”


The Press Association has appointed Nick Thomas, from Associated Press Television News, to the newly created post of entertainment editor.
The new PA entertainment division brings together the company’s TV, showbiz and entertainment material for print, web and mobile platforms providing a one-stop shop for clients requiring such content. Nick will take responsibility for managing and developing content across the division, including celebrity, real life, TV and lifestyle features, showbiz gossip and arts and entertainment event guides.


The 14th annual Evening Press Business Awards confirmed itself as the biggest and most glamorous event of its kind on the business calendar in booming North and East Yorkshire.
The event attracted a record number of entries for 12 categories in a year when coverage of the frenetic and growing activities of the business community in the York-based Evening Press ratcheted up from one page per week to two pages per day.
