New weekly ready for launch in Bromley

A new free title – the KM Bromley Extra – is being launched this month.

The Kent Messenger Group title will reach 100,000 homes in the borough of Bromley from August 17, following a 16-page ‘trailer’ version next week.

Editor Sandra Hembery and senior advertising manager David James, who are already responsible for KMG’s Dartford, Gravesend and Bexley titles, will be based with their teams at a new local office in Foots Cray.

KMG editorial director Simon Irwin said: “This latest launch shows the confidence we have in the future of local newspapers, particularly quality publications that respond to the needs of readers and advertisers.

“This is all about strengthening our position in our own marketplace and increasing the level of competition and choice for readers and advertisers.

“Although Bromley is considered a London Borough, the majority of local residents still see themselves as Kentish and we are delighted to serve them with a free local newspaper.”

The launch of the Bromley Extra follows the success of the new Bexley Extra and the revamped Sevenoaks Extra.

Advertising director Simon Clubley said the Kent Messenger Group was responding to demand in the market for a new newspaper.

He said: “Our research tells us that there is a phenomenal demand for a KM-type local newspaper in Bromley.”

The Bromley Extra will include news, lifestyle features, event information, a television guide, jobs, motoring and classified advertising section.

When it launches, the Kent Messenger Group will produce 670,000 free newspapers a week – an increase of almost 33 per cent on the start of the year.

The expansion of the free titles has also created 40 jobs across the editorial, advertising and production departments of KMG.
