New role for Debbie Tweedie

Debbie Tweedie has been appointed the new Deputy Editor of the Cambridge Evening News.

She has been Editor of the Bury Free Press for the past three years, during which time the newspaper’s circulation has risen from 28,600 to 31,000.

Debbie has been a weekly newspaper editor for the last 11 years and has also worked on evening and daily titles at Darlington, Plymouth, Derby, Leicester and Kettering.

She replaces Peter Wells, who is taking early retirement after 27 years with the News.

Editor, Colin Grant, said: “Peter has made a tremendous contribution to the News over the years and will be missed by his colleagues.

“Debbie certainly has a hard act to follow but will be bringing several years of provincial newspaper experience and an excellent track record to Cambridge.”

Debbie takes up her new role on August 21.
