New look for the Swindon Advertiser

The Swindon Advertiser has a new look, with a cleaner, more modern style and the introduction of new daily features sections.

The front page has lost its “dated” masthead, the old colour palette and the HelveticaNeue Extra Black headline font.

In their place comes a more modern masthead, fresher colours and a less “in your face” Tempo font.

  • As Tempo makes less demand on space, the front page has more flexibility for secondary stories, good pictures and eye-catching tasters.

All the old furniture and page headers have been stripped from the inside pages and lead headline sizes are being restricted.

There is a new daily letters spread and three pages of Neighbourhood News from local correspondents every Friday.

The Newsquest title is also carrying more colour pages from its award-winning press hall in Oxford.

The new features sections, most of which have a prime slot just before the TV centrespread, will widen the appeal of the paper and give readers added reasons to buy it every day.

They are: food and drink guide Taste, on Mondays, Family Life on a Tuesday, Business Week for Wednesdays, ents guide Out, on Thursdays and the Friday Weekender.

Editor Mark Waldron said: “These are exciting times for Swindon. The town is on the verge of some major changes, is growing in confidence and raising its aspirations.

“The new look for the Advertiser reflects this. As much as the town is modernising and looking forward to the future so are we.

“These may be tough times for the newspaper industry but it doesn’t mean we should all give up trying.”

The changes also see the three main sports pullouts The Red, Monday Sport and Grassroots, move into the main paper to form bumper sports sections at the back.
