New in brief

Newsquest is seeking seven redundancies in printing and pre-press at Bolton and Bury in addition to the 12 editorial posts being cut there.
Two production posts are also under threat in Blackburn, where the Lancashire Evening Telegraph is published.

Richard Bowyer has been appointed deputy editor of The Sentinel in Stoke.
He is currently deputy editor of the Lincolnshire Echo, and the move will see him rejoin his former boss, Mike Sassi, who moved from Lincoln to become editor-in-chief of Sentinel Newspapers in December.
It is hoped Richard will start his new role in May.

Charitable groups and organisations in the circulation areas of Newsquest’s 317 newspapers are once again to benefit from cash injections, thanks to the group’s charitable arm, the Gannett Foundation.
Grant applications for a share of £925,000 are currently being accepted through individual newspapers.
Each newspaper establishes its own priorities, depending on local needs following guidelines laid down by the Gannett Foundation, which supports projects, which take a creative approach to fundamental issues, such as neighbourhood improvements, youth development, cultural enrichment and support for disadvantaged people.
