New faces and promotions at Sunday title

Andy Mallabone (39) has been appointed head of design on the Sunday Mercury, the Birmingham-based Trinity Mirror tabloid.

He was previously on secondment from the Birmingham Evening Mail and had been heavily involved in the recent relaunch of the title.

In another move at the Mercury, Adam Fradgley (28) is appointed picture editor, a promotion from his previous job as chief photographer.

The appointments follow a number of new faces and promotions at the Sunday Mercury in the past few months.

New appointees include: David Brookes as editor and Paul Cole as his deputy, both from the Birmingham Evening Mail, Clare McVey as Lifestyle editor (from Sutton On Sunday), Julie Shaw as a sub-editor (previously Coventry Evening Telegraph), reporters Paul Malley (from the Shropshire Star), and Martyn Leek (Chase Post), and sports reporters Teresa Phillips, (Bromsgrove Advertiser), and Rob Owen (South Wales Argus).

Internal promotions include head of content Bernard Cole to assistant editor and reporter Tony Larner to chief reporter.
