New editor for Star website

The Shropshire Star’s award-winning website, Shropshirestar.com, is to get a new editor.

Ian Harvey, who is currently the paper’s assistant chief sub, will take over from Mark Waugh in the New Year.

Ian, (39), has worked for the Midland News Association for the past 16 years, beginning with 10 years at the Express & Star in Wolverhampton.

He has been assistant chief sub at the Shropshire Star for six years and has also worked as a sub editor at the Southern Daily Echo and as a reporter and sub on the Staffordshire Newsletter.

He said: “I’m moving onto the Internet desk at a time of great change.

“I’m looking forward to really exciting times in this ever-developing medium as well as the new opportunities it brings me after working on the print side of the industry.”

Mark, (28), has edited the site for the past three-and-a-half years and has developed it from a two page site maintained by the computer department, to the site which won the BTopenworld Midlands Website Publication of the Year award earlier this year.

  • He is leaving the paper to become a public information officer for a unitary authority, where he will oversee the development and delivery of its electronic information and also be responsible for the quality of all it public information.

He said: “I’ve had a great time developing Shropshirestar.com during the last three-and-a-half years and have had the pleasure of leading an excellent team.

“Winning the BT Midlands award this year was the pinnacle of that for me and now I’m really excited about my new challenge with the Borough of Telford & Wrekin, which is a very forward-looking authority.

“Ian Harvey is full of ideas on continuing to take Shropshirestar.com forward and I think that’s going to be really good for the site and its readers.”
