New appeal to build on £725,869 success

Cancer care in Wales is getting a boost from a new appeal by the South Wales Evening Post.

Readers have created a fund of £41,000 in just three months.

It follows their impressive effort of donating £725,869 for a previous appeal that raised cash to build a new cancer care centre in the grounds of Swansea’s Singleton Hospital, which opened its doors in May.

The new Evening Post Cancer Care Fund is collecting money to kit out the new centre with all the equipment it needs to provide the very best care for patients.

Readers are co-ordinating a steady stream of donations and organising a host of events to bring the money in.

And Swansea health chiefs are delighted with the progress.

Swansea NHS Trust corporate development director Andrew Bellamy said: “We are very pleased with the continuing efforts of Evening Post readers.”

He appealed in the paper for continued support for the campaign.
