Net initiative at media centre

A unique Internet initiative has been launched by the Grimsby Evening Telegraph, in partnership with Grimsby College.

Mariner Radio, a concept successfully pioneered by the Telegraph in 1999, has been made available across the worldwide web in what is believed to be the first such collaboration between a regional newspaper and a college in Britain.

Internet users will be able to listen at any time to a 30-minute programme produced by Grimsby College’s Media Centre.

Each programme will contain a mix of music, news and features on local organisations, and will run for a week before being updated every Monday.

“We aim to produce a diverse package that will inform and entertain users. It will use the latest audio-streaming technology available via the Internet,” said Telegraph e-media manager Nigel Lowther.

“We are delighted with the media centre partnership and the continuation of Mariner Radio in this new format. We hope users will enjoy the programme and we look forward to working with the college to extend programming in the months ahead.”
