Metro teams up with Trinity Mirror to target new cities

Free newspaper Metro has joined forces with Trinity Mirror to launch two new editions in Liverpool and Cardiff.

The paper is already given away in 13 cities across Britain every weekday morning, and will hit the streets of Liverpool and Cardiff in March.

The new titles will be written and produced by Metro UK’s editorial team in London, and 25,000 copies will be printed and distributed by Trinity Mirror in each of the cities they serve every day.

They will include national and international news along with local listings, and local advertising will be handled by Trinity Mirror.

The group already has a similar partnership with Metro in Scotland, Newcastle and Birmingham where it also has its own established local newspapers.

Georgina Harvey, Trinity Mirror’s managing director, regional newspapers, said: “Following our other successful partnerships with Metro UK across Britain, we’re delighted to team up once again.

“This exciting addition to our portfolio allows us to tap into an affluent, young, ‘urbanite’ demographic, enhancing our offering to advertisers, deepening our presence in the local markets, and opening up significant new revenue streams.”

  • With a distribution of more than one million copies, Metro is already available in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Leicester, Derby, Nottingham, Bristol, Bath, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
