More than £7,000 has been raised at Torquay’s first media Ball, sponsored by the Herald Express.

The event was held at the town’s Imperial Hotel and organised by the chamber of trade.

The money raised will be split between Christmas lights for the town and the Devon Air Ambulance.

The ball included fireworks at midnight and a charity auction, and it is now hoped the Ball will become an annual event.

Other sponsors were Gemini Radio, Carlton TV and What’s On South West Publications.
