Media Ball date is set

The Media and Press Ball is to return to Huddersfield for a second year.

Thanks to sponsorship from gas pipeline operator, Transco, the charity ball is to be held once again at the West Yorkshire town’s Alfred McAlpine Stadium in October.

The ball was resurrected last year after a 21-year break. And it proved to be a very popular decision.

“We weren’t sure if press balls had had their day in the region but judging by the comments from people on the night, they certainly haven’t,” said organiser Brigid Walsh, of the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

“We wanted to host a stylish, affordable night to give journalists in the region chance to catch up with each other somewhere other than a council chamber or court room,” added Sally Cope, of the Yorkshire Post.

Around 300 guests including journalists from newspapers, TV and radio stations and press officers from across the county will be attending the ball.

Entertainment will be provided by a 19-piece big band, string quartet, disco, fun casino and raffle. There will also be a champagne reception and four-course dinner.

Once again the event will raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, a charity which grants wishes for seriously-ill children.

Last year, the ball, attended by special guest and speaker ITN presenter Nicholas Owen, raised over £3,000.

The organisers are also grateful to Huddersfield advertising agency Bang!, which is designing the brochure, tickets and website for the event free of charge.
