Liverpool and Everton seal deal with local press

Everton FC has signed a deal with the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo publishers Trinity Mirror to produce a variety of publications, including their official matchday programme.

Trinity Mirror North West & North Wales’ Sport Media division will produce a brand new bi-monthly junior magazine aimed at 8-14 year olds from October, and official club books will follow. Sport Media already publishes the monthly “Evertonian” magazine.

Trinity Mirror now has a partnership with both Liverpool FC and Everton, publishing LFC Magazine, the only weekly official club publication in the Premier League. The company also produces the Anfield matchday programme, membership magazines and official club book for the FA Cup holders.

The new contract is in addition to another first this season – producing the matchday programme for the Rugby League team St Helens.

Sport Media executive editor Ken Rogers said: “The modern trend in the Premier League has been for clubs to build increasingly high castle walls around their stadia, using internal media teams to deal with and control press enquiries, while producing official publications in-house.

“This has never been the case at Everton, who have had a ten-year magazine partnership with Trinity Mirror North West & North Wales and who have now shown vision with this latest media arrangement.”

A separate media partnership has been forged between Trinity Mirror and Everton, which will increase the Post and Echo’s branding at Goodison Park. Advertising which was restricted to a single pitchside hoarding last season now spans the entire width of the club’s Gwladys Street stand.

The Liverpool Echo will also become the official sponsor to an Everton v Liverpool derby game during the three-year deal, with the aim to turn the day into an official “Echo day” celebration.

Everton chief executive, Keith Wyness, said: “We can now communicate with our supporter base as never before and promote Everton’s brands, products and services to a much wider audience.

“At the same time we are providing Trinity Mirror North West & North Wales with the promotional platforms and exclusive content that helps meet their strategic needs. It really is an ideal partnership for both parties.”
