Lifting the veil of mystery on the print media industry

The Dynamic Asian Women Network is to hold its first-ever print media event in London, providing an insight into the diversity of career options available within the industry.

A host of successful Asian women will be on hand to share their experiences and offer practical advice on how to access the industry at the event at London’s Media Centre on Thursday, March 11.

Among those on the advice panel will be Robina Dam, who is a regular contributor to the Daily Mail’s Femail supplement, Eastern Eye editor Amar Singh and Evening Standard contributer Gita Mendis.

Robina said: “Although in recent years there have been an increasing number of young Asian women going into the media, they seem to have made most headway in television and radio.

“I hope DAWN’s print media conference will encourage many more to approach newspapers and magazines.”

Amar added: “It is great to be involved in the DAWN Print Media Event. I believe it is of vital importance that young people looking to break into journalism are given practical advice from media people from different backgrounds and levels.”

Manisha Dahad, co-founder of DAWN said: “So many Asian women are interested in entering the industry and the evening will be an ideal opportunity to hear the stories of journalists and be inspired by them.

“For those who are already in the industry, it is an ideal opportunity to network, share their experiences and get different perspectives on each others career paths.”

Parminder Vir, another co-founder of DAWN and an executive producer and diversity advisor to the chief executive of Carlton Television, will chair the event.

Terence Mansfield, the president and chief executive of the National Magazine Company, will conduct the keynote speaker session.
