Teenage tearaway named after successful court plea

The Dorking Advertiser has won the right to name a teenage tearaway who urinated on students’ tents and threw stones into a school swimming pool.

The Trinity Mirror newspaper made a successful court plea, arguing that the 17-year-old boy, who was made the subject of an anti-social behaviour order, should be identified.

Magistrates agreed that, despite the boy’s young age, it would be in the public’s best interest if the press were to name him.

A court heard how police had held meetings to discuss what should be done about the teenager, and a string of incidents detailing his bad behaviour was read out.

The full order forbids him from causing criminal damage to property, or threatening, abusing, harassing, distressing or alarming anyone in Surrey or inciting others to do so.
