KM Group is one of the top50 firms to work for

The Kent Messenger Group has started the year on a high with news it has earned a place in the Sunday Times 50 Best Companies to Work for in the UK list.

The accolade is all thanks to KMG’s own staff.

Positive feedback from 250 surveys, randomly distributed to employeesthroughout the group last year, led to the unique distinction.

The Sunday Times list, published yesterday, was compiled by authors and journalists Milton Moskowitz and Robert Levering, who also generate the US version published in Fortune magazine.

KMG is the only regional media group to make it onto the list.Competition to make the list was intense and news of the KM Group’s placingcame in a letter to managing director, David Lewis.

He said: “I am delighted that the positive feedback from our own staff has put us up there in the top 50.”

KMG staff were asked how they rated the company’s performance on health and safety, workplace practises, philosophy and company culture.

The entry also included support material, such as Investors in Peopleaccreditation (KMG achieved IIP status in 1997 and was re-accredited lastyear), handbooks, newsletters, videos and training information.

The Kent Messenger Group has 663 permanent staff working at 18 offices.The company’s head office and main production centre, Messenger House, isbased at Larkfield, near Maidstone.

Flagship title, the Kent Messenger, is number two in the UK for paid-forweekly newspaper sales, with its sights firmly set on the number one spot.

In November 2000, KMG scooped the award for best UK weekly newspaperinternet site in the first Newspaper Society new media awards.
