Since the TV talent show gripped the nation, fans of runner-up Gareth Gates have been rushing to the hairdressers desperate to get his spiky-haired look.

Not one to miss out on a new trend, Peterborough Evening Telegraph reporter Jonathan Sandall decided to try out the ‘sonic’ look for himself.

Jonathan’s new look attracts admiring glances

As someone who usually spends around 30 seconds styling his hair, the 30 minutes of gelling, twisting and spraying it took to transform Jonathan into ‘Gareth’ was quite a change.

After getting his hair just right, Jonathan was ready to show off his new look to the Peterborough public – and it certainly got their attention!

Without the ‘sonic’ spikes

Jonathan said: “I showed people a picture of what my hair looked like before, and some said it looked better.

“But most people just laughed at my new hairstyle and I got some strange looks.”

So after his brief brush with stardom, Jonathan decided not to let it go to his head.

He said: “I’ve decided to stick with my normal style – I don’t think the spikes really suited me.”
