Grimsby TV launched

A television news service, dedicated to Grimsby and Cleethorpes and spearheaded by the Grimsby Telegraph, has been officially launched.

Around 70,000 people across North East and North Lincolnshire will be able to access Grimsby TV (GTV), a joint venture between the Telegraph, Grimsby College’s East Coast Media and Immage Studios.

Representatives from the three local media organisations gathered at Grimsby College for a sneak preview of the quality “news behind the news” features the programme will broadcast.

Students on the college’s NVQ broadcast journalism course have been working as news crews on the service for six weeks.

Mark Webb, deputy managing director of Grimsby and Scunthorpe Newspapers, said: “I was very impressed with the standard that was shown, especially because they have only been working on it for six weeks.

“It shows what quality can be produced when a newspaper and local television channel come together.”

  • GTV has three vehicles, each equipped with two editing stations and two cameras, enabling the news crews to travel all over the area gathering news and following up stories which have appeared in the Grimsby Telegraph.

Talks are already underway to expand the local news service to Scunthorpe, Hull, Lincoln and Louth.
