Goodbye to a friendly face

Staff at the Lincolnshire Echo have been paying tribute to one of the company’s friendliest faces.

Mark Barton, who worked in the machine room at the Echo, was well known for his generous nature and and willingness to help.

Malcolm Pheby, managing director of the Echo, said: “When his workmate was taken ill with breathing problems, Mark was first on the scene.

“He immediately took stock of the situation and resuscitated his friend. Mark had saved his life. We don’t forget selfless acts like that.”

Echo day shift operations manager, Adrian Hodson, said: “He was a mate, a friend – always willing to help. We shall certainly miss his generous contribution to our lives.”

His funeral took place at All Saints Church in North Hykeham and was attended by workmates, friends and family.

Veteran Echo journalist Bette Vickers gave the reading ‘Footprints’ and the service featured Mark’s favourite hymn, The Old Rugged Cross.

Mark is survived by five children, his parents, three brothers and a sister.
