Global coverage for Cornishman

The Cornishman’s web site can boast a truly global audience.

At a recent council meeting in Marazion, a reader revealed how friends in Zimbabwe had been logging on to find out the latest news on the area.

Her comments came after Marazion councillor Nigel Walker decided to take action over a BBC Radio One broadcast which linked an alleged racial incident in Marazion with a racial assault in St Austell.

Mr Walker has requested taped transcripts of the broadcast, saying: “It seems to have made a totally unfounded connection.

“One or two ill chosen words can keep on having repercussions.

At the meeting, the unnamed member of the public thanked The Cornishman for covering the story.

She said: “Friends in Zimbabwe saw The Cornishman on the Internet and talked about Marazion being in the news.”

Meanwhile, BBC South West Head, Leo Divine, has defended the broadcast by claiming the linking of the two stories was justifiable as it was relevant to a Pan-Cornish audience.
