Frock pledge boosts Echo appeal

Dentist Andrew Zaranko is one of the latest readers of The Northern Echo to pledge support for the newspaper’s Go Casual for Mozambique Day on Friday, March 31.

Mr Zaranko has challenged his colleagues to raise £1,000 to help the flood victims. If they succeed, he has promised to wear a dress for the day, even while he is attending to patients.

The Echo is asking its readers to dress casually, or unusually like Mr Zaranko, on March 31 and send a cash donation to their appeal.

The newspapers’ project has received backing from the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and the Conservative Party Leader, William Hague.

Mr Hague said: “It is wonderful that The Northern Echo is encouraging local people to raise money for this important cause”.

Last year, a Go Casual Day organised by the paper raised more than £10,000 for the Kosovar Refugees.
