Former Evening Echo reporter Nick Sommerlad has married singer Sinead O’Connor in a secret ceremony.

Nick, who worked at the Echo’s Basildon office before moving to the Press Association, said the wedding took place three weeks ago and they are both very happy.

He said: “We fell for each other very quickly. Both of us have been out with various people in the past, but we are both very happy now.”

The pair met through a mutual friend in February, and Nick proposed after a whirlwind four-month romance.
