Floods won't halt the Herald

Floods across the south west failed to stop delivery driver John Brooks delivering the Evening Herald.

  • He became stranded in a giant puddle in Honicknowle (above) during the recent storms.

But undeterred, he climbed onto the roof of his van, pulled off his shoes and socks and waded through the water to summon help.

Within minutes, distribution supervisor Lee Bunker was at the scene with another vehicle to rescue the van from the flood.

John used a rental van to complete his day’s work.

He said afterwards: “Other drivers were going through so I thought it would be okay, When I got into the middle the van cut out – the water was about two feet deep.”
