Final beckons for loyal fan

A veteran Saddlers fan who attended Walsall’s last major cup final more than 50 years ago will head for Cardiff tomorrow, courtesy of the Wolverhampton Express and Star.

Arthur Mills will join thousands of other supporters at the Millennium Stadium for the Second Division play-off final against Reading after the West Midlands paper stepped in to make sure he had a ticket for the match and a seat on a supporters’ coach.

Mr Mills was at Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea Football Club, in 1946 when Walsall took on Bournemouth in the final of the Division Three South, Northern Section Cup.

Saddlers lost the match (their last national cup final), but Mr Mills is optimistic of a victory this time around.
