Regional newspaper publishers will celebrate the Golden Jubilee at the Newspaper Society’s Annual Lunch next month where Her Majesty The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be the guests of honour.

Regional newspapers will have an important part to play in the celebrations and the Queen’s visit on March 26 is being seen as an important recognition of the work carried out by its members.

The lunch will be attended by 500 regional newspaper publishers, editors and their guests.

Newspaper Society president Edwin Boorman said: “We have good reason to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. In a world that is changing faster than ever before the Queen and the Duke have, for 50 years, been constant and a consistent influence in supporting those who wish to improve our life.

“By honouring the Newspaper Society with their presence at our Annual Lunch, they recognise that local and regional newspapers reach everyday people who they enjoy speaking with.”
