Editor-in-chief role for Echo's Ian

Ian Murray, editor of the Southern Daily Echo in Southampton, has been appointed editor-in-chief for Newsquest Hampshire.

His responsibilities will now include an editorial overview of Newsquest’s weekly titles in Hampshire, which include the Basingstoke Gazette, Andover Advertiser, Hampshire Chronicle, and the Romsey Advertiser as well as the Salisbury Journal in Wiltshire.

He will continue to edit the Southern Daily Echo as well as its associated publications: the weekly free Southampton Advertiser Series, the New Forest Post and Hampshire Society magazine.

Ian, (47), has been editor of the Echo since 1998.

Prior to that he was managing editor of the Daily Echo in Bournemouth, where he had also been news editor and deputy editor.

He began his career in 1979, joining Berrows Newspapers in the West Midlands, and worked at the Stourbridge County Express before becoming editor of the Kidderminster Shuttle and Times.
