'Double red top scoop' for press club

The Birmingham Press Club is claiming a “double red top scoop” after lining up Sun columnist Jane Moore and former Mirror editor Piers Morgan for its celebrity events.

Jane, who began her career on the Post and Mail in Birmingham, will be the special guest at a press club celebrity lunch at the city’s new Radisson hotel on February 23.

And Piers will appear at a special press club reception during Birmingham Chamber’s Conference Day at the International Convention Centre on March 10, when he will take part in a question and answer session.

The two events are the first celebrity dates to be lined up by the press club this year, and Daily Mail columnist Richard Littlejohn, who was the industrial correspondent on the Birmingham Evening Mail in the 1970s, will also guest star at a lunch in the summer.

Press club chairman John Lamb said: “We are delighted at getting Piers, Jane and Richard and all should prove hugely entertaining.

“They will be the first of a number of star attractions this year – watch this space.”

Both Piers and Jane will be made life members of the press club, and will become recipients of specially made bugles, manufactured by famous Birmingham whistle maker, Acme Whistles.

Birmingham Press Club is the oldest press club in the world. It has more than 200 members and organises the Midland Media Awards as well as an annual press ball.
