Tony Turp, a regular columnist for the Lincolnshire Echo, has died.
Mr Turp, (49), had been suffering from cancer. He was a enthusiastic chess player and chairman of Lincoln’s chess club.
His son, Michael-John, said: “He was always enthusiastic about the game.
“He was keen to make new members welcome and to promote chess to the world outside, as in his Lincolnshire Echo column.”
He leaves a wife, Maxine, and a son. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 10.
